The
65-year-old Rock and Roll Hall of Famer,
class of 2004, made up for lost time with a
triumphant tour opener heavy on hits and
middle-aged nostalgia. If this 24-city spring
tour, which includes another stop in Toledo
on Thursday, does prove to be Seger's swan
song, he's giving fans a 25-song dream set,
including several early-career rockers he
told the sold-out crowd he dusted off for the
first time in years such as "Her Strut" and
"Come to Poppa."

Gary
Graff, The Oakland Press
as
the Detroit rocker opened his highly
anticipated spring tour at Toledo's
Huntington Center, it was clear Seger
remembers how to put on the kind of long and
lusty show on which he's staked his Rock and
Roll Hall of Fame expectation.
at
two hours and 15 minutes and 25 songs this
was no retiring kind of rock show. Rather, it
was full-tilt and fired up, an exhaustive
exposition whose flaws only made the set seem
that much more reckless and youthful -- to
the delight of the sold-out crowd of 8,200
that seemed almost equally divided between
Michiganders and Ohioans.
Brian
McCollum, The Detroit Free Press
Bob
Seger showed Saturday night in Toledo that
he's still capable of delivering his share of
rock 'n' roll glory: With a generous helping
of hits and a fun smattering of less-traveled
material, Seger and a reliably taut Silver
Bullet Band served up a lengthy, confident
set.
It wasn't
Michigan, but Seger certainly seemed
comfortably at home in the relatively
intimate environs of the Huntington Center,
where his warm and lively heartland rock was
heartily welcomed by a sellout crowd of about
8,200.
Adam
Graham, The Detroit News
Bob
Seger's arms were raised in victory as soon
as he hit the stage at the Huntington Center
in Toledo Saturday night, in front of a
sold-out crowd of 8,205.
It was a
pose the 65-year-old Rock and Roll Hall of
Famer would strike repeatedly during the
2-hour, 15-minute concert, the kickoff of his
first tour in four years.
Seger was
energetic and in strong voice throughout the
25-song performance, which touched on many of
his biggest hits ("Night Moves," "Turn the
Page," show-closer "Rock and Roll Never
Forgets") and hit on a number of lesser known
nuggets from his catalog as well ("Gets Ya
Pumpin'," from the 2009 compilation "Early
Seger Vol. 1," "Come to Poppa," an album
track from "Night Moves").

If
there were any nagging doubts about the
wisdom of Bob Seger embarking on yet another
tour at age 65, they were erased about the
time the Michigan rocker finished his first
song, "Roll Me Away," during his opening
night show at Toledo's Huntington
Center.
The roar
from the sellout Ohio crowd of about 7,000
told the story.

When
you play a show, particularly a big show like
last night with Bob Seger, everything moves
fast. It's a heightened reality with a
thousand mini-events removed from ordinary
life -- all part of why I love it and why my
band members love it. What stays with you is
the feeling the music gives you, how well you
connected with the faces in the crowd, the
people you see and make your music with, and
maybe a couple other flashes of
things.
But last
night in Toledo, my band and I will surely
recall one singular thing when we think about
this gig months from now. In the midst of our
sound check, we all looked out in the sea of
empty seats to find Bob Seger sitting alone,
listening to us. Folks, this doesn't happen.
I've opened for dozens of big-time acts
who've come through town, and you rarely see
the headliner, let alone have him sit down
and check you out. This kind of interest and
respect from a superstar is unheard of, and
it quickened our purpose, got our mojo
workin'.

"I'm
turning 66 on May 6 and I'll [tour
more] if I still feel like this isn't the
last thing. If I feel like maybe we should do
this again, I will finish the new album and
we'll go out in maybe October, November, or
December and do another 24 shows because
we've missed a good deal of the country on
this one," he said in a telephone interview
from his Michigan office.
"It's kind
of a feel thing. At my age I just want to see
how I hold up and I could probably tell you
the answer to that around May 1."
One thing
he won't be doing Saturday or next Thursday
is taking the stage in the short-shorts and
tube socks he sported at the Speedway Jam in
1983.
"Oh, God, I
looked like such an idiot ," he said. "I'm a
huge basketball fan and back then that's how
the NBA guys dressed. I was also a jogger. ..
I know that was a terrible, terrible look. My
wife saw that and said, 'What were you
doing?' It was hot! It's not a rock and roll
look at all. From that day on after I saw the
pictures I said I'm never going to wear
shorts onstage again."

Gary
Graff, The Oakland Press
The
second time -- and a return to Michigan terra
firma -- were apparently the charms for Bob
Seger and his Silver Bullet Band.
After a
solid but still-room-for-improvement opening
of its spring tour on Saturday (March 26) in
Toledo, Seger and company were significantly
stronger and noticeably more confident on
Tuesday at the Dow Events Center in Saginaw,
perhaps a little farther his Detroit home
turf than Toledo but, crucially, on the right
side of the state line. And that seemed to
make all the difference in the
world.
Sue
White, The Saginaw News
The
night was still young Tuesday, the stage at
The Dow Event Center filling quickly with 14
musicians, when a familiar face came in
view.
The hair is
steel gray these days; the voice, it doesn't
shake the rafters anymore. But when Bob Seger
opened the songbook -- drawing out the
obscure, the legendary, all songs, judging
from the chorus echoing from a sold-out
house, that his fans knew word for word --
Tuesday became a night few will ever
forget.
Sue
White, The Saginaw News
Responding
to a text, Detroit rocker Bob Seger raved
about Tuesday's concert at The Dow Event
Center, especially the way everyone sang
along to so many of the songs. It felt great
playing to a hometown Michigan crowd, he

Rod
Lockwood, The Toledo Blade
If
Thursday night's show at the Huntington
Center was the last one forever in Toledo
from Bob Seger, then he went out with his
knees pumping with the energy of a far
younger man, a huge smile plastered on his
silver bearded mug as the Silver Bullet Band
hammered away on "Rock and Roll Never
Forgets."
His voice
was in fine form, he tinkered with his set
list a bit from Saturday's Toledo show and
Seger -- who made some noise before the tour
about retiring if his 66-year-old body can't
take the toll of performing -- seemed a long
way from winding down.
Mike
Wilkinson, The Detroit News
Bob
Seger tweaked the set list at his second
Toledo show on Thursday night as he poked fun
at his age during his first tour in four
years.
Just days
after playing 25 songs in the tour's first
show on Saturday, Seger added "Shinin'
Brightly" from "Against the Wind" and a new
original, "Real Mean Bottle." Ditched: "Betty
Lou's Getting Out Tonight."
...He
ripped into "Her Strut" after saying the song
was off "Night Moves." Afterward, he had a
confession, "before the newspapers say I
screwed up again." He admitted he got his own
discography wrong: "Her Strut" is really on
"Against the Wind."

"Bob
Seger wisely understands that absence makes
the heart grow fonder. And judging from the
volume of the singalongs during the Detroit
rocker's two-hour show last night at the TD
Garden, the sold-out crowd of near 16,000
definitely missed him in the four years since
he last hit town with his Silver Bullet

"But the
fun the audience was having paled in

Surprise
guest: Kid Rock joins Seger.
The
Nashville Scene
"...with
Seger's voice -- the auditorily archetypal,
soulful, heartland-rock grumble from the guts
... or the heart -- sounding as rough-hewn
and golden-brown coming out of the PA last
night as it does when coming off the FM
airwaves (as it inevitably is at any given
moment somewhere in America), it was easy to
embrace the musical moment."
Cindy
Watts, The Tennessean.com:
"He
has totally blown me away, how passionate he
is about his music," Ballard says of Seger.
"He shows up every day at soundcheck ready to
rock. His passion for being a professional is
something a lot of people could benefit from.
He's nice and super sweet. He shows me every
night what it means to be a legend, and I'm
soaking it up as much as I can."

"Bob
Seger first took the stage in 1961, and 50
years and countless tours later the Detroit
rocker says this is probably his farewell run

"Guys
like Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty and The
Eagles are his contemporaries, but it has
always seemed to us that it was Seger who was
doing the real heavy lifting, devoid of
Hollywood contacts and the attitudes that
come with them.
"All told,
it was a stellar career-spanning revue of the
past five decades of silver-bulleted Seger,
touching on all working-class fist-pumpers,
earnest lovelorn ballads, raunchy
mattress-ready sin machines, and the
damaged-wing dreamers, replaying real life
back to all the beautiful losers, ramblin',
gamblin', and travelin' men and women in the
crowd."
By
Kristi Rivera, Examiner.com
"Seger
rarely slowed down during the entire
performance. His energy could be felt
throughout the theater as he belted out hit
after hit, asking the crowd more than a few
times, "See if you remember this one."
"Other than
a short break, Bob Seger and the Silver
Bullet Band enthusiastically played
throughout the entire show, never missing a
beat. The two standouts of the show, other
than Seger himself, were Alto Reed and his
saxophone, who almost stole the show at
times, and Mark Chatfield, whose guitar solos
were killer."

"No.
(Laughs) I got tired of that about the second
year. But it sold 'em so many trucks. And I'm
so happy that, for instance, Eminem is doing
it for Chrysler now. That's really going to
help them and the job situation in Michigan.
Practically everything in Michigan is related
to cars. You've got seat makers, electronics
guys, tire guys, everything."

Live for the
first time since 1980: "Long Twin Silver
Line."
Timothy
Finn, The Kansas City Star
"He
ended with "Rock and Roll Never Forgets,"
another song about the search for
invigoration or redemption -- for the spirit
of lost youth.
And on the last day of
his 65th year, he proved that his faith in
that solution is as strong as ever."
Danny
Alexander, Blogs.pitch.com
"Seger
makes sure that the show rocks hard from
beginning to end. At 66 (in fact, the show
falls on the eve of his and longtime backup
singer Shaun Murphy's birthdays), he sounds
incredibly good. That big old sledgehammer of
a voice - -that he finds ways to yield with
scalpel-like precision and, always, the
restraint and delicacy of soul -- has never
sounded better."

David
Lindquist, Metromix
"Good
For Me" and "Shinin' Brightly," two minor
tracks on 1980's "Against the Wind" album,
emerged as surprise highlights of the show.
Both songs celebrate relationships that work,
consequently playing against Seger's catalog
of restless, on-the-run anthems.
"Don
Brewer's drum beats fired as pistons during
"Travelin' Man," accented by an overdrive
duel of Alto Reed's saxophone and Mark
Chatfield's guitar.
"Seger,
sounding stronger than he did during a 2006
visit to Indianapolis, belted more than 20
songs with sincere grit -- remarkably similar
to what's heard a dozen times a day on your
radio."

Bob
Seger wows the Qwest
crowd
by Kevin Coffey, World-Herald
"Seger
may well be "on a lonely, lonesome highway
east of Omaha" right now as he heads to his
next tour stop, as the lyrics go in his hit
song "Turn The Page."
"But he was
neither lonely nor lonesome while onstage
Tuesday at Qwest Center Omaha. Instead, he
was surrounded by nearly 12,000 fans that
danced in their seats, belted out his songs
and cheered him on for more than two
hours.
"The
classic rocker performed 25 songs while
backed by as many as 14 musicians from the
Silver Bullet Band and, though he told me a
few weeks ago how tired live shows make him
nowadays, he showed few signs of slowing
down...
"...It was
the big four -- "Old Time Rock And Roll,"
"Turn The Page," "Against The Wind" and
"Night Moves" -- that really brought the
house down. At one point, I could feel the
seats shaking from all of the
cheering."

A
bit older, a little dated, but still the classic
Bob Seger
by Jon Bream, Star Tribune
"The
gray-haired, bespectacled guy in jeans and
2003 Harley Davidson T-shirt carried on with
blue-collar earnestness, guy-next-door
bonhomie and Detroit soulfulness. He was in
better voice than at his 2006 Xcel concert,
and he seemed to be a little more
energetic
"Come To
Poppa" was a funky strut; "Beautiful Loser"
was beautifully rendered by a suddenly
demonstrative Seger and the back-to-back
piano ballads "We've Got Tonight" and "Turn
the Page" were intimate, uncluttered
highlights."

Seger never
forgets
by Bob Gendron
"Bob
Seger followed his own advice Saturday at a
packed Allstate Arena, taking to heart the
redemptive sentiments of his anthemic "Rock
and Roll Never Forgets" throughout a
satisfying 135-minute show filled with radio
staples and deep cuts.
"As he
ponders staging another tour after finishing
the current trek, rumored to be his last,
Seger's standing as the godfather of
heartland rock appears cemented. The Detroit
area native's working-class identity and
no-frills approach counter those of peers
that changed their sound or lost touch with
their roots
"Such
honesty, as well as a strong connection with
his audience and six-piece Silver Bullet
Band, played out in the form of music that
was as down-to-earth as the
production
Just simple, soulful songs
sparked by brassy R&B and driving rock,
and blended by a cast that swelled to as many
as 13. Despite the large numbers, few notes
went to waste."

Seger, fans celebrate homecoming at the
Palace
by Gary Graff
Bob Seger
didn't waste any time telling the Palace crowd
that "it's great to be home."
"
the
nearly two-and-a-half hour concert was a
celebration of agelessness, both of Seger's
music and how it makes his fans feel when
they hear it. It was the same kind of
lovefest that happens every time Seger and
company plan in metro Detroit, amplified by a
long absence.
"And while
success to the tune of 50 million albums sold
means Seger has plenty of fans all over the
country, and the world, it's different back
in Michigan and especially in the Detroit
area. This is where his greatest hits were
written or conceived, and where his fans feel
a particularly personal attachment to
them."

Seger keeps it mostly the same, but better, for
second Palace
show
by Gary Graff
"One
different song and a sibling shout-out marked
Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band's
second concert at the Palace on Thursday
night (May 19)
"Otherwise
the second of three Palace shows was much
like the first, although both Seger --
apparently over an acknowledged cold that
dogged him on Tuesday -- and the band were
noticeably looser and more confident, hitting
a comfortable groove from the start and
maintaining a higher and more consistent
level of energy throughout."

Seger hits emotional sweet spots at last Palace
show
by Susan Whitall, Detroit News
"Bob
Seger and the Silver Bullet Band closed out a
three night stand at the Palace of Auburn
Hills on Saturday with a solid, musicianly
show.
"Seger hit
all the audience's emotional sweet spots,
taking them all the way back to the high
school gym with "Rambling Gambling Man"
(complete with the silvery "whoooos" of his
estimable female backup trio).
"One of the
better numbers, Seger seemed almost reluctant
to introduce: "Days When the Rain Would
Come," a song recorded in 1984, and included
on the "Early Seger" compilation of a few
years ago. "This might just kill the show,"
Seger said sheepishly, explaining that he was
playing the song as a request for friends.
But it was one of the highlights of the set,
all the better for being a bit
unfamiliar."
Seger
wraps up with sellout
show
by Brian McCollum
"Bob
Seger delivered another winner Saturday
night, wrapping up his three-date hometown
stand with a sellout show at the Palace of
Auburn Hills
"It was a
show that could potentially wind up as the
final hometown concert of his long career:
Seger, who has indicated that he's ready to
retire from live performing, hasn't yet
decided if he's hitting the road for an
autumn leg
"A pair of
guest performers also made their Silver
Bullet Band debuts: Seger's 18-year-old son,
Cole, and 16-year-old daughter, Samantha, who
lent sax and tambourine, respectively, to
"Trying to Live My Life Without You" early in
the night.
"The band's
getting bigger all the time," Seger
quipped.'"

Bob
Seger has all the right night moves in concert
at The Q
in Cleveland by John Soeder, The Plain Dealer
"With
those husky pipes of his still crackling with
vitality, the Detroit-bred Rock and Roll Hall
of Famer played more than two hours in front
of 13,000-plus fans. In the process, sans
video screens or pyrotechnics, he proved that
three-chord soul never goes out of
style.

of his stomping finale, "Rock & Roll

bolder."

Seger closes tour in Grand Rapids with rock 'n'
roll flourish, Silver
Bullet-style
by John Sinkevics, The Grand Rapids Press
"
Seger and his bandmates -- brandishing the
sort of tight musicianship, polish and
intensity that comes from playing several
times a week -- made sure on Saturday night
at Grand Rapids' Van Andel Arena that his
Michigan fan base went home deliriously
happy.
"Shaking up
the set slightly from the band's first tour
visit in early April, Seger and his Silver
Bullet comrades also upped the verve quotient
on songs such as "Old Time Rock and Roll,"
"Horizontal Bop" and "Her Strut," which
sizzled with more zip than they did early on
in the two-month tour."

Seger basks in hometown love at tour
opener
by Gary Graff, Journal Register
Newspapers
"Declaring
that "it's always the best, being home," Bob
Seger and the Silver Bullet Band launched
their second tour of the year on Wednesday
night (Nov. 2) as close to Seger's home as
they've played in quite some time.
"A few new
twists also helped to freshen the night.
"Feel Like a Number," a universal message
that plays particularly well these days
(hopefully Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder, who
attended the show, was listening to the
lyrics), was installed as the new opening
tune, with its predecessor "Roll Me Away"
sounding even more powerful near the end of
the main set."

Pittsburgh
welcomes back old buddy Bob
Seger
by Scott Mervis, Pittsburgh
Post-Gazette
"There
isn't a nicer guy in the music business than
Bob Seger, so when he walks out on stage with
a big smile, like he did Saturday night at
Consol Energy Center, it's like your old
buddy came to town.
"We used to
play here in the '60s," he said, a few songs
in. "We used to play Lebanon Lodge. No one
remembers that..." He mentioned playing three
sets, well into the night, then driving back
to Detroit. "Try that," he said.
"Amazingly,
almost 50 years later, the leader of the

Bob
Seger back at 1st Mariner Arena after 32
years
by Chris Kaltenbach, Baltimore Sun
"Thirty-two
years after last playing 1st Mariner (it was
known as the Civic Center back then), Seger
and his Silver Bullet Band proved
conclusively that rock and roll knows no age
or expiration date. From the opening cymbal
clash of "Feel Like a Number" to the final
sax blare of "Rock and Roll Never Forgets,"
Seger kept the near-sold-out crowd rocking
like nobody's business.
"...[This
was] a reaffirmation of the staying power
of great music, and the timeless appeal of a
tireless showman who never gives less than
his all.
"...[Seger
has] is a sincerity that's hard to miss,
a feeling that he's having as much fun
performing as the audience is having
listening. Whether raising his arms in
triumph during "Sunspot Baby," getting the
audience to sing along during "The Fire Down
Below" or bopping along to the propulsive
power of "Hollywood Nights" (a song that
defines the term "driving beat"), Bob Seger
represents rock and roll at its purest, and
most accessible."

(Going Back to Birmingham)," which appears on
the new package was, originally recorded in
1989 for the "Road House" movie soundtrack,
but it didn't make the final cut and remained
unreleased until this year. Similar to the
other cover, Seger's take on "Nutbush City

propelled by the four-piece "Motor City

Reed, who strapped on a huge bass saxophone
to lay down some serious bottom end on the

At
DCU, Seger doesn't forget how to
rock
by Craig S. Semon, News Telegram
"Not
only does rock 'n' roll never forget, it gets
better with age; at least that was the case
with Bob Seger Tuesday night at the DCU
Center.
"Backed by
his seven-piece Silver Bullet Band, as well
as the four-piece Motor City Horns and three
female back-up singers, Seger treated an
estimated crowd of 8,000 to nearly two hours
of classic gems from his five-decade
career
"Sung with
the same intensity as he had when he first
recorded it, Seger performed his first
single, 1968's "Ramblin' Gamblin' Man" as a
soulful call-and-response with his backup
singers. He kept a-rolling on proud and fine
with the strutty "Long Twin Silver Line," a
lost nugget from 1980's "Against the Wind"
and Seger's solid bid for great American
railroad song."

Bruce
Springsteen joins Bob Seger for some 'Old Time
Rock and Roll'
By Jay
Lustig/The Star-Ledger
"We
got a little treat for you -- a Christmas
treat for you," said Bob Seger during his
show last night at Madison Square Garden in
New York.
"He wasn't
kidding, or exaggerating. Bruce Springsteen
walked onstage with his guitar to join his
Seger on Seger's 1979 hit, "Old Time Rock
& Roll." Springsteen, perhaps thinking
ahead to the heavy touring he'll do in 2012,
clearly gave it his all."

Still
runnin' against the wind -- 31 years later, Bob
Seger rocks the
capital
by Lynn Saxberg, Ottawa Citizen
"Bob
Seger and the Silver Bullet Band rolled into
town Tuesday, only 31 years since the last
time they visited the nation's capital. Hard
to believe that much time has passed: if you
closed your eyes at Scotiabank Place, it
sounded as vital and immediate as it might
have on that summer night so many years
ago.
"This time,
the Detroit rock legend performed for 13,000
people with a seriously heavy 14-piece
band
[Seger is] an artist with
the soul of a poet, skilled at capturing a
moment in simple, timeless songs."

Bob
Seger, in Scottrade concert, still comes on
strong
by Daniel Durchholz, Post-Dispatch
"At
66, Seger
is still a commanding presence
onstage, and sang nearly two dozen songs with
the grit and gravel that are the hallmarks of
his soulful brand of rock.
"The Silver
Bullet Band was in fine form throughout. Reed
provided hi signature wail on "Turn the
Page"; occasionally, he brandished an
impossibly large bass saxophone. Guitarist
Eddie Greenberg was terrific as well,
especially when he and the horn section took
flight on the hard rocking instrumental
section connecting "Travelin' Man" and
"Beautiful Loser."
"Seger has
played many memorable shows in St. Louis over
the years, but even among those, this one was
pretty indelible."

the

Seger delivers musical journey of
hits,
by J. Sharpe Smith, The Des Moines

"Seger
is a master of the live concert, not serving

His show is carefully orchestrated to run the

such as the one about the tormented musician
touring on the road in "Turn the Page," which
Seger performed on a grand piano on the
darkened stage with the occasional piercing
sax solos -- simply mesmerizing."

Seger shows he's still got the same

George A. Paul, Orange County
Register
"Few,
if any, young music stars currently making
waves could match [Seger] in the
heart and soul department.
"Those
qualities have helped the veteran heartland
rocker -- now at the half century mark as a
recording artist -- retain an enduring
popularity...
"...things
really started to cook with their usual
energetic cover of Tina Turner's "Nutbush
City Limits" and the urgent psychedelic
R&B of Willie Mitchell's "Come to Papa,"
where Greenberg played wah wah effects and
Laura Creamer banged on a large drum. She and
the other two female backing singers did some
fine call and response action with
Seger."
Bob
Seger & The Silver Bullet Band -- Staples
Center,
by Daniel Kohn, LA Weekly
"What
has made Seger's music endure is that people
relate to his brand of blue-collar rock. The
Rock and Roll Hall of Famer's catchy
melodies, meanwhile, just seem to hold up.
Rock music today isn't as popular as it was
during Seger's heyday; his show last night
demonstrated that people still have passion
for it, suggesting that maybe today's crop of
rockers just don't have Seger's
talent.
Bob
Seger at Staples
Center,

"You

cracked at one point Wednesday night
"A show
built entirely around the past isn't as easy
as it might seem. In the hands of less
capable artists, it can come across as stale
or even somewhat sad
But not where
Seger is concerned. The 66-year-old rocker
pulled off the performance expertly for a
variety of reasons, not the least of which
being his incredible enthusiasm."

Seger at the BankAtlantic Center, January

Lee Zimmerman, browardpalmbeach.com
"All
you have to do is close your eyes as he wails
away on one of his radio-ready anthems, and
that image of the once-tireless road warrior
reappears
The band, especially, serves
as a support ensemble that's every bit as
able as Springsteen's E Street brigade or
Petty's Heartbreakers
Seger genuinely
seemed to be enjoying himself as he
encouraged the audience's enthusiasm by
playing to both sides of the stage.
Consequently, practically every song became a
sing-along with the nearly sold-out audience
remaining on their feet throughout."

by Chris Bradshaw, naplesnews.com
"His
voice sounded strong and his rasp as
beautiful as ever. He continually connected
with the audience, roaming from one side of
the stage to the other. He directly pointed
or waved to each attendee or so it
felt.
"The band
could not have been tighter or appear to be
having more of a blast. Saxophonist Alto Reed
was an animated, one-man show...The vocal
ending to "Night Moves" by his three lovely
backing vocalists? I just got goose bumps
again. Drummer and Boca Raton resident Don
Brewer crushed the rock revival vibe
mid-section of "Travelin' Man."

crossed," he said. "If I still feel like
doing it at the end of May when we're done,
then I don't know, we might do the rest of
the country in the fall, hopefully with a new
record out."

"Bob
Seger promises 'changes' in his show when tour
starts"
by Gary Graff
"There
will be a lot of changes to the show. A lot,"
said Seger, 65, adding that, "I can't tell
you any of those because I want it to be a
surprise. But we've worked on a lot of stuff,
and there will be some changes in the
show."
By that,
Seger said, he means he and his Silver Bullet
Band will be "just doing some different songs
than we did last time. Some different old
songs that we ... haven't done for years, as
a matter of fact. We've got 34 songs so far,
and I think at a max we can do 25 in a show,
and I keep working them up.

"Bob
Seger returns to the road: Songwriting,
performing still a thrill for Michigan rocker at
65" by
John Sinkevics
To
prepare for the spring tour, the singer
rehearsed with the band two or three days a
week for about two months. Between practices,
he flew to Nashville to record songs for his
new studio album, which he said is "about
half done."
He's
particularly gratified with the initial,
positive reaction to his reworked "Downtown
Train," which debuted on Detroit radio in
late February and will appear on that
upcoming album.
"You know
what made me feel great? Tom Waits actually
called my publisher and said, 'Tell Bob I
really like it, and so does my wife,'" said
Seger, who's previously recorded Waits' "16
Shells From a Thirty-Ought Six" and "New Coat
of Paint."
"I love
recording Tom Waits. I just love the way he
writes. (Seger's initial version of 'Downtown
Train') just got forgotten for, like, 20
years. We added the girls (singing) and some
other stuff."

Former
roadie, Bob Seger author Tom Weschler heads out

Since
its release, Travelin' Man has broken
all of Wayne State University Press's
commercial sales and is the second-highest
selling book for the company. "We are behind
some book that was published in 1919 that
about every Wayne State student has to buy
when they come there," Weschler said with a
laugh. "I think we are about 100,000 behind
them."
The book
has a chance to catch up as it will be
available with other merchandise during Bob
Seger's current concert tour, which kicks off
Saturday, March 26, in Toledo.

"Will
Bob Seger retire after tour? He contemplates
going out on
top"
by Brian McCollum
Nothing
is firm yet. But with his tour kicking off
Saturday in Toledo and his 66th birthday on
the way, the iconic Detroit rocker has begun
to contemplate the end of an onstage career
that began nearly 50 years ago...
The
decision, steeped in emotion, will be made in
the next few weeks.
"I'll know
how I feel physically," he tells the Free
Press. "Because you can't cheat Father Time
forever, and..." His voice trails off. "And
yeah. It could very well be the last
one."
Seger
hasn't ruled out another string of dates this
fall -- he doesn't like amphitheater
acoustics and definitely won't tour in
summertime -- but he says his body will make
the final decision....
"And you
know -- I've been blessed. But it's time to
go away and let the younger people take over,
the Eminems and Kid Rocks of the
world."
